Are Yahoo stopping the free POP service for new UK Users ??
-
I have had a Yahoo account for quite a few years and have no problem using pop to pull in my email. I've just set my wife up with a Yahoo account so she can get a new email account. (Too much spam in her existing account & I'm going to be changing Network providers soon). Webmail works fine, but when I try to set up pop to pull mail directly into Outlook I can't log onto the POP3 server (pop.yahoo.co.uk) I know that if I was in the US I would need to subscribe to Mail Plus to use POP but this is supposedly still free in the UK. See http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/mail/plus/info/

Answer:
Yahoo POP access is supposed to be free for everyone except yahoo.com Maybe they're already complying with M$oft's policies, their soon-to-be new boss.... Forget Yahoo and get Gmail. Never a single problem. I ditched Yahoo about a month ago, I'm not too happy with the Gmail interface, especially the Contacts, so I struck a happy medium, using Windows Live Mail and managing everything from there (yahoo, hotmail & gmail multiple acounts) it's really better than its parent app. Outlook Express, no comparison. It does a really good job. And leaves everything in the original servers if you like, besindes synching automatically with hotmail (if you have an account with them), including contacts. Cheers! ☼

Take my word, shift to gmail as soon as you can. Yahoo might eventually close all external pop access to comply with Microsoft policies.

I had exactly the same problem starting Friday! Before this I was able to use yahoo to send out my business emails from my websites addresses, but suddenly they have not allowed this and I was getting errors on the smtp sends. I have tempoarily stared using the smtp from the actual websites. I contacted the hosting company and they said it looked as if Yahoo/BT have tightened up their relaying and you can no longer use adresses other than those belonging to them. This is a way of stopping the spam. I think they are just being awkward. I am going to change my service provider.
