Short visit to Killarney - what should we do for half a day without a car?

• We're basically coming to Killarney to leave a rented car behind early in the morning and catch the train to Dublin at 1750, so that leaves us a while to enjoy the area by foot. I would have been happy to spend more time there but this is part of a sadly short trip to Ireland, only a first visit actually. Thought about taking a bus tour of the ring of Kerry, but do these tours usually end after 5? I'm worried about missing the train. Another idea which seems nice is renting a bicycle and going somewhere in the area, I'd love to hear about a route with interesting views but not too much of a challenge cycling, I'm really only used to city roads. Leaving luggage behind for the day is of course an issue, is there a place to store luggage at the bus station or something?

  I don't think you'll be able to fit in a full tour of the Ring and be back for 5pm, but you can check this in the tourist office . There are plenty of things to do instead. Killarney is famous for its jarveys, drivers of horse-drawn jaunting cars. They can take you on a tour of Killarney National Park and give you a history lesson and some tall tales while they're at it. It is a bit pricy and quite touristy, but it's a lot of fun too. There's also cycling and horse-riding in the park. The bike hire shop linked below has some suggested routes for various levels.
