What is the monthly Shonen Jump magazine like?

Has a manga ever just been published with just a volume, then another a few months later, and so on, instead of each chapter being posted in a manga magazine?

Is there any anime like Shonen Jump magazine? I was just thinking how cool that thing must be and to bad its only in japanese. If there is one like it in english, how would you get a magazine like that? In Ireland, you rarely get stuff from another country...
