What is an acoustic peak?

What is peak and off peak times?

  • i know this may sound stupid but i really dont know. this is what iv always thought.. off peak times are the weekdays and peak times are weekends... i dont know if im right though... or is it something to do with the time of day?

  • Answer:

Peak times are when the most people travel, so if you think about it, weekends are normally OFF peak because even though lots of people travel and work on the weekend, the majority don't and kids do not go to school on the weekends. Most people would leave for work and school, Monday to Friday before 9.30am. Peak times would be weekdays before 9.30am. OFF peak times are normally after 9.30am BUT can vary as I have found out. The London Underground peak times now start at 4.30pm, so if I want an off peak zone 1-3 travel card it is £6.30 so as long as I start my journey before 4.30pm. (Even London Underground staff get confused!) Then that is what I will pay. It goes up if I start my journey ANY later than 4.30pm! It's always best to check with the company your using or TFL website for buses and tubes. Overground trains may have their own times, so for example if you travel on National Express East Anglia then they may decide to operate different peak and off peak to say, South West Trains. Yes VERY confusing! Anyway, the a typical norm is peak times are *rush hour* times So before 9.30 is peak, after 9.30am is off peak until say 5pm when it switches to peak time again.

Peak times are weekdays any time before 9.30 and sometimes between 3.30pm and 7.30pm. Off peak is weekends, bank holidays, midday and after 8pm. Not all transport companies have an afternoon/evening peak

If you are talking about rail tickets it depends on the rail company. . All day Saturdays. Sundays and public holidays are off peak. On weekdays peak is before 09-30am with some companis having a shoulder period neither peak or off peak between 09-30am and 12 noon; some not all enforce a further peak period during weekday evenings between about 4pm to 7pm. If in doubt check with the company you are travelling with www.nationalrail.co.uk
