What are the best places to live in London for a young professional?

  • I will be moving to London by the end of the year and was wondering what are the best places to live for a young professional. I have been to London a few times but mostly stayed in hotels near Hyde park or Picadilly area. I will be working near Bank station and will want to stay in zone 1. Here are my priorities 1. Safety 2. Transportation 3. Shops/Restaurants/Bars My budget would be between average to the higher end of a professional working in the finance industry. Any help would be great!

  • Answer:

One of the apartments near Canary Wharf. There is little trouble in that area, many have their own concierge and are very secure. Some have gyms and swimming pools. If you are at the high end, look at the Pan Peninsula development. Total luxury. There are lots of bars and restaurants on the Canary Wharf estate, all the usuals like Browns, All Bar One, Cafe Rouge, Davy's -and many more. Shops range from John Lewis, Waitrose, Tesco, clothing outlets and high end jewellers. Type in Canary Wharf into a website for more details. Then try any of the many estate agents in the area. Canary Wharf is directly linked to Bank by the DLR, which takes about 10 minutes. There are lots of DLR stops on the Isle of Dogs to the south of Canary Wharf. There are many flats here with views of the Thames. There are plenty of young professionals in the area, I am sure you will love it.

on top of rosebury's esteemed establishment, perfect chicken.

= While there are some very nice parts of Camden, there are other areas that are extremely noisy because of late night bars/clubs leading to loud drunks on the streets at all hours, fights, police sirens, etc. Near the market it's very crowded and touristy - not fun if you are trying to walk around on a Saturday afternoon.

I liv in tower hamlets in east london which is a place where a lot of violence happens wiv gangs e.t.c. i remember ther was a gang war between our area, brick lane and camden up in north london. everyone kept gettin mugged and all the kids carried weapons. but that is now passing slowly and there is an increase in the amount of police due to the olympics. however, stuff on tv gets people to exagerate on how bad london is. trust me the likelihoods of u getting harmend are quite low unless u do something dumb. the best are of london is south west. u hav places like wimbledon which is relly nice.

Meeting all of your requirements would be the Islington / Islington Green / Highbury and Islington areas Lots of young professionals, good shops, restaurants , etc and good transport links to the City And no need to restrict yourself to Zone 1 in my opinion

Zone 1 - Bloomsbury,Pimlico,Baker Street,Marylebone,Belgravia,Knightsbridg… Regents Park all very expensive. If I were you I'd extend my area to Zone 2 to take in Barnes, Islington (Partly in Zone 1), Parsons Green, Putney, Belsize Park, Hampstead
