Most of the City Workers ( within the EC post codes) live out in the suburbs. It's cheaper and the quality of life is better. Trains from the suburbs come into many of the London Terminus's. Try finding a house/ apartment within the London Transport zones 4-6. Most people use public transport because a) London has a daily congestion charge, and the City is slap bag in the midst of it! b) Parking can be up to £60 a day! Property search sites (www.) -Findaproperty.com -primelocation.com -rightmoves.com -foxton.com -propertyinlondon.org/ Council tax will depend on where you end up living: £200/300 a month. Ditto with the GP- when you move in, find a local GP then take your NHS card and register with them. As for Oyster card- read here and get one as soon as possible, as it will save you money. Paying cash means that many fares are higher! https://oyster.tfl.gov.uk/oyster/entry.do I commute in to the city (EC2/3 areas) from Zone 5.

Sorry but there is no such thing as cheap accommodation in London. You need to accept the fact that you will not get cheap accommodation with an easy commute. You will either get extortionately expensive accommodation with an easy commute, or cheaper accommodation with a long commute. It's up to you which you choose. Where you are working is pretty much right slap bang in the middle of London, so the rent will be sky high. findaproperty and rightmove are good for searching for properties.

For Bank Station, around Clapham Common, on the Northern Line would be nice. Direct line and easy short commute. Do not be put off when some raise an eyebrow if you mention south of the River. Places like this are really nice to live! NOTHING is cheap. What IS cheaper in London is in grot holes! There are many in the conurbation, believe me!

Don't be fixated on the tube. Some of the nicer suburban areas are on the suburban rail system - almost as frequent as the tube and generally faster. Look at the following areas: South East London; Beckenham, Bromley West/South West: Ham,Kingston,Surbiton,Hampton,Teddington… North: Muswell Hill, Mill Hill, Crouch End,Toteridge,Whetstone,Barnet,Finchley North West: Pinner, Ruislip Avoid East London www.tfl.gov.uk www.nationalrail.co.uk Oyster cards work on all modes of transport in London At Underground or rail stations you scan the card at the beginning and end of your journey. On buses only as you board. Top up the card at any Underground station and most newsagents shops. You can register at any GP practice within 3 miles of where you are living. Try and get a recommendation from a local. Many GP practices are lousy. You need to visit London in advance of moving, explore likely areas to see what you think of them and visit local estate agents
