How to get to central London from Southall?

I don't understand these London transport directions can somebody help?

  • On Wednesday I will be travelling to Sky in Isleworth from Hayes/Southall area, aiming to be there at 1. I sometimes have problems understanding directions when i'm on my own, usually because I panic a lot. I looked at the Transport for London website and entered the relevant details, received these directions but i'm still baffled at where i'm supposed to stop and go to, especially as i'm new to London transport. I also don't want to get into any trouble areas. Here are the details for the journey: Departing: Weds 21st September 2011 in order to arrive at 13:00 (early departure?) From: Brookside Road (UB4) To: TW7 5QD Yes the directions show what to take, but I don't know what to say to driver/which stop etc. I don't want to end up being in a situation where i'm at a station and lost. Don't want to be mugged either. I am new to London travel, and have no choice but to leave from Brookside Road UB4. I will require a return journey too. Thanks a lot for reading and I hope you can help me understand and feel confident when using travel in a few days time.

  • Answer:

The stops are on the Journey Planner. I've just put your search in for myself and this is the first result: 11:27 Walk 11:33 Brookside Road (UB4) Walk to Brookside Road (UB4) Bus Brookside Road (UB4) Take the Route Bus 207 towards White City Bus Station or Route Bus 427 towards Acton/ High Street Bus Hanwell Broadway (W7) Take the Route Bus E8 from Stop: J towards Brentford / Commerce Road 12:23 Rail 12:25 Brentford Rail Station Take South West Trains towards Weybridge Rail Station 12:30 Bus 12:32 Syon Lane Station Take the Route Bus H28 from Stop: B towards Gillette Corner Tesco Walk Gillette Corner Tesco Stop: L Walk to TW7 5QD So...First of all you walk to the Brookside Road bus stop where you take either the 207 or the 427 bus - whichever comes first. Make sure you're on the right side of the road - you want buses that go towards White City or Acton High Street. You can check this by looking at the timetables at the bus stop. You need to get one of these buses to the Hanwell Broadway stop. Most buses have a recorded voice that annouces the stops but if you're worried you can just tell the driver to tell you when you get to Hanwell Broadway. Once you get there, you need to find stop J. The letters are on the top of the bus stop in a red circle. There will be a little map of the surrounding stops at the bus stop too. From Hanwell Broadway stop J, take the E8 bus. This should be going towards Brentford / Commerce Road. You need to take this to the "Brentford Rail Station" stop. Again, you can ask the driver to tell you when you get there if you're worried about missing it. From Brentford station, get the Weybridge train to Syon Lane railway station. This is only one stop. The trains seem to run every half hour and the journey time is only two minutes. Once you get off at Syon Lane, get another bus. You need to find Stop B at the station and this time it'll be the H28 bus. It should be going towards Gillette Corner Tesco. Get off at its destination and walk the rest of the way. You might obviously choose one of the other routes it offers but hopefully now you'll understand how to read the Journey Planner results. I don't know how you're planning on paying for your journey but you need to pay before you board for the first two stops. I'd suggest you get yourself an Oystercard if you haven't already done so. You don't need to say anything to the drivers if you don't want - as I said, you can ask them to tell you when you get to the stop you want if that makes it easier for you. Hope this helps. EDIT - I'm not saying this is the way I'd do it or saying it's the best way - I'm just "translating" the Journey Planner as the asker was saying they didn't understand the results. This way they can work it out themselves in future.

The instructions above are well meant but unnecessarily complicated. You can do the whole journey using just 2 buses. For details telephone Transport for London on 0843 222 1234
