Is it justifiable that an American businessman who ranted at British Airway cabin members got 3 months in jail?
-
read that he was flying from Phoenix to London..and got drunk and was hitting on one of the female cabin members..and she felt uncomfortable so was replaced by a male cabin member..and then he stopped serving him alcohol and when explain why to the American businessman..he began ranting.."Who the F ---- are you to judge me!?" '"Who do you think you are?! "How old are you?!" and the male manager of the cabin crew said that the rant was so out of control that he got spit on his uniform from it..and when the plane landed in London the American business man was arrested and locked up and went before a judge who said his "rant was foul"..and gave him 3 months! in jail..is this justifiable or a bit harsh and why? how common this probably and when it became such a bad thing? please explain what you can. thanks for your answers!

Answer:
The pilots and cabin crew I know have to put up with a great deal, and some obnoxious drunk screaming obscenities and spitting on them is just not on. Why should they tolerate it? This guy was probably on a business trip, so it wasn't for pleasure, and he was quite possibly under a lot of stress, so sitting on a plane for 8 hours and pouring alcohol into him was not a good idea. But the cabin crew are there to do a job, and they have to serve drinks on request. If he worked for my business, would I want someone so unstable work for me - probably not. His 3 months would have immediately been cut in half for good behaviour, so it would've been 6 weeks. Harsh, but after the 9/11 highjacks the airlines take no prisoners. 6 weeks would give him some thinking time. A plane is like a flying bomb, being loaded with fuel; having an out of control drunk on board can cause a crash that will take out an entire community. Not surprisingly, the crew will do everything they can to protect the other passengers, and discourage anyone else from going there with punitive jail terms.

justifiable, yes. but a 3 month sentence- harsh. i would have forced him to apologise! but in response to what makes people behave this way- drink! booze! liquor! whatever you want to call it, you give someone a pint that costs 8 quid while they're sitting in an aluminium alloy tube roaring through the sky at 400mph, they won't be very happy in moments to come. if it turns people nasty in their own homes, well it's to be expected really!
That is not ranting. That is called sexual harassment and drunken disorderly and if the person who he spat on pressed charges assault. He got 3 months, he will serve no more than 6 weeks. (he most likely wont even serve that) Non violent criminals get out very early

Think it's time we had booze free flights. The man who got drunk on the plane is not the first such. He got lucky and only got a three (3) month jail sentence which probably means he'll be out in six (6) weeks with good behaviour. How about a breathalyzer before boarding the plane? Anyone deemed unfit to drive a car because of booze is unfit to fly in my opinion. Puritan

He should have got 2 years in prison. This kind of behaviour on aeroplanes is totally unacceptable. He was putting the safety of several hundred people at risk. People who behave in this way are usually unbalanced alcholoics

More to the point, who are the bloody fools that sell booze on flights? If you sell booze at altitude, you get some people who are badly affected. I was once on a BA flight to Mexico and the waiters kept feeding booze to a guy who was getting more and more aggressive until I pointed out to him the risks of rape in a Mexican jail! The BA barmen eventually stopped serving him at the request of concerned passengers! All these searches for potential weapons too! And they sell a 40% alcohol solution on board and sometimes in glasses. Then there are the glass bottles. Profit before cabin safety.

American businessman should be lock in Gulag for this , American businessman is the best in world and everyone loves the American because they are so friendly peoples. The American businessman should tell the judge he was very friendly and be nice to woman on plane who over reacted to American businessman because he try give money to her.
