International Student Homeless in London? Where I can get help I dont now what more to do?

  • I from Portugal and I came to London in the beginning of august 2011 for start the studies in Middlesex University in the north of London, when I arrive in the first day I rent a hotel room before I came, I Stayed the first day looking for rooms and Houses to accommodate myself, and some people set me some kind of trap and they robed almost all my money and my clothes when the riots start, the only money I had in that was like 200pounds on me hided. I slept one day on the street in some sit because i don't know what to do or where to go. I didn't report to the police because I don't even now where the police is. I was to afraid. In the next day I go to the University and I explain what happen to me, and they said in the begging they can't help because technically i am not student because i had only the conditional letter or offer and I need to make the IELTS exam but I dont have money to do it, because I got robeb, was my intension to make it of course. But they offer a room to stay until 14 august, with this conditions: 200 deposit + 178punds(14 days), but I told them straight I don't have money, and if I gave the 200 pounds I don't have money to eat, so stayed anyway because I had no place to go, but I know after that time, i need to leave the room they gave without paying because I had no choice, because if I give the money I had no money to eat. That 2 weeks was HELL, when mean HELL I am not joking, I eat one meal per day, drink only water, I was afraid to come out from the room, because the riots start in that zone, I Walk all over London, because i cant put money on my oryster, I walk miles, when mean miles i am serious, I Start to have bobbles in my foots, In that time I made the NIN for at least try to find Work, I was in my embassy to ask for help, but they said they couldn't help because I am not registered there! you can believe that? I start to get depressed so much and I still am, I was thinking about suicide several times... After so many search I met a Portuguese couple in the south, and they said I cant they in their house after 14th august, but their house is like 1 bed room flat, and they have 2 babys kids, and the flat is almost like size of studio flat, I am sleeping in the floor in the last 2 months almost and barely eat, since 14 of august to be more precise, I am searching for job and try to find help but they cant give me job because I dont have references, and the couple said I need to leave the flat because is from the council and I cant live there longer, I lost my dreams, I dont have place to go, I am starving, I cant go back to portugal because I dont have money, I cant find work, no one helps, I keep contacting the University and they dont care, I still calling and calling and I don't get Answers! From University From anyone! I cant handle it anymore, I keep fighting and shearching , and nothing :(, i dont know what to do! I dont sleep properly, i dont eat, now they said I need to leave, I search for jobs for everything and nothing. I am alone, I dont have friends, I lost my social life when i came, I am for my own!!!!!!!!!! Someone can help me, or where get help! I lost everything I came to this country to make my under degree in criminology and finish my IT engineering, and now I have my life destroyed! I am suffering... I try to find solutions and i couldn't find that much. Sorry my english I now is kinda crapy, and sorry my big text.

  • Answer:

If I was in your shoes, I would: Seek shelter at the YMCA or the Salvation Army, or Red Cross / Red Crescent. All 3 are organizations that are internationally known for helping people in your situation. The Salvation Army will more than likely know of some free beds, a locker for your belongings, and provide simple, free meals. If that doesn't work, ask around at any church, until you find one that knows of free accomodation, and a food bank. The YMCA / YWCA and Salvation army will also help with finding employment. Most public libraries offer free internet access, so you can search for contact information. In some cities, a map of the transit system is free, if you ask at a major station. I am assuming you have attempted to contact friends and relatives back home, and have not been successful. This, actually, would be my first step: contact my parents or siblings, and at least ask for them to wire you money for a trip back to your home.
