Is there a train station in Heathrow?

Closest train station to London Heathrow Airport to Manchester?

  • I am flying in to Heathrow and wanting to take a train to Manchester (I am going to the Man U - Benfica game, so I would like to arrive near the stadium). What is the closest train station to the airport? About how much round trip will the train cost? Thank you!

  • Answer:

The nearest main line railway station to Heathrow with trains to Manchester is Watford Junction. Take a 724 Green Line bus from Heathrow Central Bus Station to Watford Junction Station, which operates hourly. For more frequent services catch the Underground from Heathrow to Euston Station (Piccadilly Line to Green Park the Victoria Line). Virgin Trains run from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly every 20 minutes and the journey takes 2 hours 8 minutes. The cheapest rail tickets are those you book well in advance for specifically timed trains www.virgintrains.co.uk You will need the same credit card you used on line and your booking reference number to collect your rail tickets from the station You can catch a tram or a local train from Manchester Piccadilly to the football ground at Old Trafford

I'm assuming that it would be impossible for you to fly to Manchester International Airport? The nearest station in London would be Euston - take the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to KIngs Cross St Pancras, it is easier to change, take the exit on the platform and turn right, don't go up the escalators, turn left into the passage just before them.turn right and got down the escalators, take a Northbound train - the destination is not important as you're only going one stop. Trains to Manchester from Euston are very expensive if you buy the ticket on the day, if you prebook and name the train you're leaving on the journey is a lot less expensive. You can pick the ticket up on the day (using the automatic ticket machines) as long as you have the credit card you paid for the ticket with. The journey should take about an hour and depending on your passport (EU passports are easier for customs) and whether or not you have hold luggage to pick up it could take some time to get to the Underground station from disembarking from the plane. Remember you will need a ticket to get to Euston, if you're only passing through London a single ticket is the best option.

Good answer from David but if I was making the trip I would be looking for a flight direct to Manchester instead. Obviously it will save you time but UK trains are expensive so it will probably cheaper as well. Most likely there will be charter flights available for the match. Ask a local travel agent or check the Benfica website.

You'll be better off if you try to get a flight into Manchester. You can catch a train at Watford Jct for Manchester, but there is no guarantee that it will be an express train or you can go to Euston and take a train there. Either way, it will take much longer, be more of a hassle and be expensive.
