Is Maidenhead, UK a nice place to live?

I lived and worked there for 3 years (late 90's) and can say that for a twenty something it wasn't a bad place to be. I'd have to agree entirely with the comments on getting s* faced at the W/E. Unfortunately my company ended up moving to 'beautiful' Slough. So commuting the 8 miles or so by car took around 40 minutes in the mornings - not good. However there were plenty of employment opportunities in the town at that time so if you both work and live in Maidenhead you don't really need a car or the hassle that goes with it. Most areas are within walking distance of the town centre. Rental accommodation can be expensive in MH, but apart from this MH is pleasant and overall I think it was a nice place to live. I can think of worse places to live. Good facilities. Close to the M4 and M40 motorways. Good train service into Central London. In addition, there's some wonderful countryside surrounding it with plenty of country pubs and good places to visit. Not a cheap area though!

There are some good parts and some bad ones same as there are wherever you live. I lived in Bracknell, Reading, Marlow and High Wycombe in the early to middle 70's and used to visit Maidenhead a lot and I can honestly say that I found the people friendly, the areas around the shops clean and the parks well kept. The roads were well maintained too. As I said this was in the early to middle 70's and things do change I know but wouldn't have thought it would have changed that much. Best thing to do if you are thinking of moving there is to maybe visit the place and stay overnight in a hotel or guest house, get out and about at night in various parts of the town and make your own mind up as you will no doubt get a lot of conflicting answers on here dependent on the persons personal views.
