Where are some good places to live in London for a young professional?

Where are the best places to live in London if you are living on a tight budget?

  • I'll hopefully be attending Grad school in London but will be living on a tight budget. Any info on where to live? And is it possible to get a flat for 1 person in London without breaking the bank?

  • Answer:

Well it entirely depends on exactly what your budget is. London is very, very expensive. To get a 1 bed flat in an area where you aren't guaranteed to get stabbed you'd probably be looking at spending around £1000-£1200 a month in rent ($1500-$1800) and whilst I don't know your exact budget, I don't think I know any students who can afford that! Probably the best thing for you to do would be to look for a house or flatshare as unless you are loaded that is pretty much the only option for someone on a tight budget. Your university will hopefully be able to give you a list of resources for finding one, or alternatively look on www.gumtree.com. It's where most Londoners go to find things like this. As for the area, due to the price of property it's more a case of living in the best area you can afford with your budget. If things are very tight I'd suggest living in the outer parts of town in the west and north of the city as they tend to be safer but, due to their distance from the centre of the city, are a little cheaper.
