How to get from london to exeter by 8:30 am?

  • Hello, I 'd like to ask you: i live in london and next week i need to get to exeter for an interview. I need to get to exeter st davids station by 8:30 am or exeter st thomas station by 9 am of Thursday the 24th of November. I can't find any train or coach that can bring me there that early! help! what can I do? Thanx a lot

  • Answer:

hi- im from exeter, and live in london! as mentioned above, the best bet is to re-schedule or stay over the night before. you really do need to book TODAY, as train and coach prices go up each day- book bus and train tkts cheap on megabus.com ( the train tickets are for travel on regular trains, but are just discounted)- or national express coaches. call the tourist information and find somewhere cheap to stay- they're really helpful. good luck w the job interview- exeter is a great place! its bang in the middle of devon, and surrounded by really diverse countryside, with coasts north and south. ;D

You either get a the last coach or train the night before and hang around till morning, OR you book a cheap B&B for the night before and travel up in the evening, get a good night's sleep and be fresh and prepared the next morning for your interview. No one wants to interview someone who has been travelling on a train for hours and hasn't had proper sleep or a wash ;)) Or, pay for a cab (be very very expensive though) I'd go with the B&B or if that really is not an option, you will have to re arrange your interview for later in the day.

What's the point?

The first train from London Paddington to Exeter departs at 0706 am, arriving Exeter St Davids at 09-30am. You could explain the situation to your prospective employers and request a later interview time, or alternatively go down the evening before and stay in a b & b or hotel for the night. For the cheapest rail fare book your tickets in advance a soon as possible for speciofically timed trains www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk or visit the ticket office at Paddington Station A railcard will save you a further 34% www.railcard.co.uk

Best bet would be to go the night before and book in at a B&B or hotel there, go to your interview in the morning and then go back to London.

Asking your prospective employer to delay the interview could give the wrong impression. You should be putting yourself out for them and not the other way round. £40 for B & B is cheap if it means a better chance of getting the job. The scarcity of jobs at the moment could mean that you may not get another chance.

You obviously need to go the day before and stay overnight so you are fresh for the interview in the morning. Or try and change the interview time to early afternoon so you have a chance of getting there easily on the day.
