Things to do in Southampton and London?

Things to do and see in London?

  • My boyfriend and I will be spending three days in London in a few weeks, and I was hoping someone could recommend some things to see and do. Obviously there is loads of stuff but I really wanted to narrow it down to a few 'unmissable' things as we don't want to spend the whole time rushing from one attraction to the next! We are interested in historical and cultural stuff but would like some fun things to do as well. Opinions of the London Eye, London Dungeon and the various markets would be great, as well as suggestions of your favourite things to do in London (anything at all!). Thank you! P.s. we've ruled out Madame Tussauds already.

london eye boring waste of two hours. make sure you have booked. #1 pick: tower of london, make reservations for first thing in morning. #2 pick: globe theatre, and play, a walk on the south bank, market by the tower bridge #3 pick: big ben area, westminster abbey, housesparliament, westminster hall, #10 downing street, war rooms under the horse guard, trafalgar square. #4 pick: stroll from horse guards to buckingham palace #5 pick: an evening gawking at the rediculously expensive things and a meal at harrods. stroll down sloan street #6 pick: various markets, covent garden #7 hampton court london dungeon waste of time.

I personally love going to the V&A and to the Tate Modern - a really interesting exhibition finished there recently about Russian art from the early Communist era. As for the unmissable? Get yourself to Oxford Circus and look around the huggggeeee shops. Carnaby Street is also down there, and well worth a look at. The London Eye is good from what I have heard, as are the Dungeons. I don't know why you've ruled out Madame Tussauds! It's great! A boat ride on the Thames is also worth looking into.

I would visit the British museum they have some good exhibits there and a place I would highly recommend is The Bank of England Museum, it is free to get in and i really interesting ,you find out all about the building and invention of money and every thing that has happened to the bank in its history, really worth going to.You can find details on the banks website.

The best way to get yourself familiar with London and its monuments is to take a double decker city bus tour. Other Things to Do -Check out Trafalgar Square (the National Gallery is located there) -Shop on Oxford Street and Camden Market. And Covent Gardens -Take a walk through Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens or Regent's Park (Hyde Park is my favorite) -Watch the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace -Check out Piccadilly Circus and West End Here's a site to book tickets online for London attractions, including the London Eye and London Dungeons: http://www.rialtoplus.com/rialtoplus/ConsumerControlServlet/welcome/selectCategory?webId=VisitLondon (By the way, the site that's advertised at the top of page is really good for information pertaining to London).

I would always recommend the Natural History Museum. Its great for the kids too!

I truly belive the one thing you should do in london is to get the river bus (not the clipper) from embankment (westminster pier) all the way down to greenwich, you'll see a whole new london you didn't know existed and on those river buses there is someone who gives a chat giving you an insight to what's around the river and they point out all the historical / interesting items. You can hop on and off it stops at tower bridge on the way, (tower of london) which to be honest I've never managed to get to yet, so I can't give a recommedation on that one tho I have heard it's great. The Eye is also definitely worth going on, personally I like to go on it just as it starts getting dusk as you get a whole different perspective but anytime on that is great, I would definitely recommend booking online earlier as you get it cheaper and it saves queuing to get the tickets. Definitely do the boat thing tho you wont regret it, plus greenwich is a great place for a nose around and lunch, the market is good too. That's my personal fav thing to do and if I ever have friends staying who aren't from London, that's the one thing I make sure we do... Have fun.
