Is England a really good place to live?

Is Moving to London, England a Good Place to Live in? Why or Why not?

  • I want to move to London, England. But my parents keep telling me it isn't a good place to live in. I need to know what bad reasons and good reasons to live there. Please give my some tips of what to do or whatever you do in London.

  • Answer:

I personally love living in London...but if you want to live in London you have to like living in a city and busy life. Anyway Good Points: Multi-cultural Great Shopping Close to beaches in places like Southampton for days out Great people Bad Points: Crime (but you get this everywhere you go....if you find a crime free place tell me) Expensive I couldn't really think of a lot of great points or bad points because its each to their own...some people will love living in London and some won't. My good points can be some peoples bad points..why don't you come for like 2 weeks as a trip and see how you find it first before you choose a permanent move.

US citizen? You can't move to the the UK unless you have a visa and a job, neither of which you qualify for unless you have at least a relevant masters or in an occupation on the skills shortage list.

Depends where you're coming from. London is very expensive; you don't get much for your money. But if you can get a good job it's worth it, you can save up money and then leave in a few years. It's also very lonely unless you have friends or family there.

Just Me

I spent the summer in London and absolutly loved it! However, it is very expensive, especially the housing. You could always live outside of London and take a train in if you work there. A lot of people do that too.

London is huge, it depends where you live and your quality of life will depend on what you can afford. Most people cannot afford to live either in central London on the outskirts and travel in, so they end up in the middle ground. The areas that are in this middle ground can range from hell holes to actually quite nice suburbs and it all depends on where you are. Certain parts of the worse areas can actually be really nice. For example Peckham has a bad reputation but it has a beautiful park, really nice, cheap housing, great transport links and great local amenities. I live in central London and I go out there for swimming, library, park and great food. It also depends on where you live, if you want to sample British life and not spend a fortune you can always try a smaller city as well. Just as good and less crime.

London - I lived there for 35 years. I would recommend that you don't go there personally, but it depends where you are coming from. It's noisey, busy, polluted, the apartments are small and expensive, everybody is in a rush ... and the Beatles left a long time ago. Also as an immigrant you won't know where to go, and you will get ripped off. People who come to earn big bucks and leave, usually leave unhappy with less money than they thought. Paris I think is better, or Berlin. IMHO
