Its a joke, what do you think ?

Answer:
Completely agree. Old Ken says he wants to lower congestion and greenhouse emissions so he sets up the congestion charge to encourage drivers to abandon their cars in favour of using public transport. Then he starts hiking the price up on public transport to record levels above inflation. Sorry, it stinks to high hell and is endemic of the failure of this Labour government to do anything other than tax the public to breaking point. BTW The user who extolls the virtue of buying an Oyster Card. I am a commuter who buys a yearly season ticket. I do not get the option of paying cheap fares via Oyster as that would mean buying two season tickets. And if the card is so perfect and you state it won't charge you more than a daily travel card, then why is the system being inundated with complaints from users who have been charged the wrong fair, and we're not talking a few here and there. Typical farce! You know, I know and just about everybody else knows that this is nothing more than another stealth tax being imposed on the law-abiding public by a government bereft of any real ideas. TAX! TAX! TAX!

Every year the fares go up,not just the buses but trains as well. They're trying to make the use of Oyster cards, and other forms of pre-payment cards compulsory. It still doesn't stop the fare dodgers though.

I started using London buses reguarly when I started Uni at the end of 2003. A journey was 70p. Just over 3 years later and it's £2! It's insane. I think they're trying to get everyone to switch to Oyster. I hope Oyster fares aren't going up too, that just takes the biscuit. A return journey from my hometown in Essex to the nearest shopping centre (barely a 20 minute trip) is nearly £6 return by bus.

It's too pay for upgrading the system before the olympics in 2012. Get an oyster card.

No way! I remember only 5 years ago it was 70 pence! Its ok if we are going to see some major improvements to public transport, but Ill be well annoyed if we dont! Its a joke, that is a serious amount of money when you add it all up - one bus will make tens of thousands every day. They should be looking to make public transport more comfortable, less grotty, more reliable and eventually CHEAPER to avoid pollution and congestion. They bring in this congestion charge to encourage us to use public transport, and then they put the cost of Public transport up! And dont even get me started on the cost of a train ticket!

I stopped complaining years ago, i just cycle everywhere now. I only take transport if i have to which is very rare. I know that not everyone can do this, but i just got fed up.

who cares... its a London issue, deal with it. the alternatives are to increase london taxes through some other means (rates, sales tax or whatever) or seize another vast amount of money formt he national tax budget of the options the latter is a no no.... after all London has already pillaged the national projects budgetes for the dome, for the tube, the olympics... its abouttime the people who get the benefit of the expenditure started paying for it, instead of sacrificing other English regions to pay for grandiouse projects in London. Its not an issue for Wales or Sctoalnad as their budgets seem relatively pilfer proof.
