You could try Holiday Inn Express: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/ha/longm They have rooms with a double bed and sofa bed and it works out at about £67 per night. The one in Greenwich is located near North Greenwich underground station which takes about 10 minutes on the tube to get to Waterloo and slightly longer to Westminster (houses of parliament, Westminster Abbey etc) or Bond Street (on Oxford Street for shopping). You are also on the right tube line to get to The Tate (modern art gallery), London Bridge (for Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast which is docked along the river here). If you stay at North Greenwich, you would also be a short bus ride from Greenwich which has the beautiful Greenwich Park, National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory (for the meridian line), the Cutty Sark, lots of restaurants, markets etc. There are other Holiday Inn Express closer in town too but they are usually more expensive the closer into the centre of town you go. If you do decide to stay there, I suggest you buy Oyster Cards for you and your family as travel works out much cheaper this way. You can top them up with money and pay as you go by touching the cards to the sensors on buses and on the underground. It works out to be nearly half the price for single journeys and you never pay more than the equivalent of a one day travel card for multiple journeys in one day. Have fun in London! Also, there is a large cinema complex, supermarket, pizza hut and mcdonalds not far from the Holiday Inn Express at North Greenwich. www.odeon.co.uk and look for Greenwich under location.

The Sherlock Holmes Hotel in Baker street London it is central to most special sites in London, It is very 'oldie worldly ' the cuisine is fabulous the rooms are comfortable and pretty the staff are friendly and welcoming . when i stayed there several years ago, they looked after us as if we were royalty. I don't know if it still is , it was owned by Hilton's Group. Madame Tussuad's and the Planetarium ,are within a short walking distance . Oxford street is also a short walk away.. I hope you will stay there and really enjoy your

It really depends on the kind of vibe you want. The person above who is talking about Greenwich is right but Greenwich is not particularly central, (although this will mean hotels are slightly cheaper!) If you fancy an upmarket, touristy, theatrical kind of feel then go for hotels in the west end (Picadilly, Covent Garden, Leicester Sq). If you fancy being near there but want don't want to be paying as much the hotels around Holborn and Russell Square are very good. If you want to be in an area which most Londoners love it's diversity then try going slightly more East towards White Chapel or Shoreditch. If you like your shopping then choose somewhere inbetween the West End and Knightsbridge (where Harrods is!). Hope that helps you narrow your search down a little! Make sure you visit Camden Town while your there! Have fun!

Try checking some of the big names. Thistle, Hilton, Travellodge. You don't say when you intend to visit but there are often not as expensive as you might think. Also check out yha.org as all London hostels I've looked at have small rooms and most rates have breakfast included
