What are the bus fares in London?

Bus fares in London for immediately subsequent buses?

  • In my country when you use a means of transport, you may use the same ticket without paying extra in another means of transport. This is particularly beneficial if you want to go from destination A from C but there is not any direct transportation, so you get off at destination B and then take B to C bus. Is there such practice in London?

  • Answer:

That isn't how it works on the buses, no (although in my opinion it should be). If your journey requires that you use two separate buses then you always pay for two individual bus journeys, so it will be £2.70 each way. However, remember that there is a daily price cap of £4.20 on the buses. Therefore if you make the journey twice each day (to work and back for example) you'll actually only be paying £4.20 each day, which is a bit more economical and only slightly more expensive than the tube, plus you can use as many other buses as you like those days without paying any more (the tube price cap for Zone 1 is much more). Alternatively you can buy weekly bus passes for £18.80 or monthly for £72.20, which will work out cheaper if you use the buses very frequently.

Basically you pay a fare per bus trip. If you use two buses then it's two fares. We do not have a 'timed' ticket that allows you travel within region. With the Underground as you never leave the underground system you are still paying for 'one journey'. With London buses it's just per trip. This is one of the ways London travel costs are more expensive compared to other cities- but you have to live with it.

We don't have a "transfer" system in London. However nobody pays the expensive cash fares. You can buy daily, weekly, monthly or annual bus passes. Or, Travelcard or Pay As You Go Oyster Cards, which are valid on all forms of transport in the London zones - Bus, Underground, Light Rail, London Overground, National Rail, Trams www.tfl.gov.uk Telephone 0843 222 1234

Not on London buses. On the tube, as long as you do not leave the station then the ticket is for the whole journey.
