Will my canadian debit card work in cuba?

Will my Visa debit card and atm card work in the UK?

  • I have a debit card with a Visa logo. Here in the states they ask me if I want to use it as credit or debit, and i always use 'credit'. Will it work just as well in London? My atm card (and Visa card) have the Cirrus & Star logos on the back. Are there Cirrus atm machines in London?

  • Answer:

Yes your debit card will work in ATMs as well as in stores (as credit). Before you go be sure to call your bank and let them know the card will be used overseas. Many banks will lock accounts if suspicious or unusual activity appears on the account. I definitely found that one out the hard way. Also be sure to carry a photo ID when using your card in stores, you're more likely to be checked if they know you're from out of the country. And as in any world city, use ATMs in bright and safe areas, don't stand at the ATM and count your money shove it in your wallet right away and maybe even think about an under-your-clothes money belt for your card, money and passport. And do watch out for odd attachments on the card slot that may be criminals trying to steal your card numbers and pin. Have a wonderful trip :-)

Yes they'll work in pretty much if not all. Most ATM's show what cards with which logos on you can use just so you can make sure.

Most Cash Machines (ATMs!) accept Cirrus and Visa is accepted everywhere. People in the UK use cards for almost everything (even buying a sandwich) Make sure you know your PIN numbers if youre card has a chip as you will always be required to type in your PIN when you buy something. You can also get cash when you buy drinks in a bar, you pay with your card and you can get cash with your drinks aswell CASHBACK!

yes they will. be very carefull using a.t.ms anywhere in britain especially london, gangs of crooks put false fronts on and skim your cards.get cash from the bank only get enough to last a couple of day's it is cheaper. do not use money exchanges they give poor value as do hotels. be careful, enjoy your stay in britain,it really is not as violent as the press would have you belive.99% of people are really nice.

Yes, but make sure you have a 4 digit pin # or it wont work. And be careful where you use your ATM, the scams are getting better (not just in UK, but everywhere!). Research...do lots of it! The world is a crazy place now days. Im going in May (2 wks) and I cant wait!!!

We use chip and pin on our cards - I am not sure that you do - but you should be able to use whole in the wall cash machines at banks even if you cannot use the in store terminals. Some stores will let you sign for transactions still.

You will need to notify your bank that you will be using it outside of the U.S. This way your card has a less chance of being blocked. Also, take you banks telephone numbers in case you have a problems using your card. Only a very few cards in the U.S. are chip & pin compatible. For those card that are not. Take you passport and id. Tell the merchant to swipe the card and you will need to sign for your purchase because the U.S. has not upgraded to chip & pin yet. I just found out interlink & Plus are linked to each other. So if your card has this symbol-you can use it at merchant that take visa plus. You would choose checking or current account and then enter your pin. That is strange that you have the cirrus symbol on a Visa Debit card. In this case you may be able to use at places that take Maestro. You would choose checking or current account and then enter your pin. Another thing is if you can find a US bank (Not the bank called US bank). You can do a Visa Credit Card Cash advance. It will still come out of your checking account. There may be fee both ways for this method. You will need your id & passport. Just remember dollars is worth less. 1.00 GBP = 1.99830 USD or even more. Most transaction fees will not show on your receipt but will show on your statement. Some will not get posted until your statement is printed. Some people say don't let the merchant do dynamic currency conversion, other say go ahead and let them do it. You will still be charged a fee either way. A Visa debit card can work as primary credit or Current account both methods come out of your checking account. Look for a machine that won't hold your card, while you do the transaction. This way the machine can not take the card. All of this information is accurate. I researched it.
