How much would a trip to London cost?
-
I am planning a trip to London and hopefully some countryside areas outside of London. I am a student and I live in Indiana. I will be leaving the first week of June for two weeks max. I need to pay for my ticket and passport, but I will have free rooming so hopefully that will cut out a huge chunk of money. How much will I need to save for food, attractions, nights out, maybe a metro pass, etc?

Answer:
London is going to be pretty busy around that time, what with the Olympics starting in July, so advise book early and get a cheap deal from the Airlines. Plan on spending around £200 a week at least. Good luck and have a good trip!

$2,500- $3,000 airfare for June is most likey to be over $1,000 at the very least if you plan on taking several trains outside of London I suggest a Brit Rail Pass- you Need to buy that Before you trip as they are not sold in the UK http://www.britrail.com/ For travel within London get an Oyster card- https://oyster.tfl.gov.uk/oyster/entry.do Suggest you get a Guide book or 2 and a Good Map-enjoy your trip

Air ticket $700. Everything else about $40 per day if you can be really frugal. Ideally about $70 per day The London version of the Metropass is the Oyster Card which you can use on all forms of transport within the London Zones 1 to 9 Underground (Subway), Buses, London Overground, National Rail, Light Rail, trams www.tfl.gov.uk

A lot of money. Keep in mind, everything over there costs about TWICE as much as it does here. Thank the economy for that one. I would imagine at least a couple thousand dollars. At least.

London is a very expensive place to visit, but you can definitely manage it. Buy a plane ticket ASAP…they will only go up because of the olympics in the summer. I recently saw London plane tickets for $800 at the beginning of summer but they may not be around. But please buy the plane ticket ASAP. Once you get there, everything is double. You can save $1000 but it will only get you as far as $500 would. The only big-ticket items that you really have to pay for in London are the London Eye, Tower of London (both of those fell between 15-20 pounds if I remember correctly), and Westminster Abbey and St. Pauls Cathedral, but you can get in for free if you are willing to give up a short amount of time on Sunday to go for a church service. I imagine you have to pay for anything at Buckingham Palace, but I didn't go on a tour or anything there. All museums are free admission which is great, and Hyde Park is a great place to spend hours lost in. The original Hard Rock Cafe is in London which is really cool if you're into that, but it's small so you may have to wait if you get there at a crowded time. It's expensive, but like I said if you like that kind of thing it's cool to check out and say you've been there. In general you'll find cheap food at pubs, and pubs are plentiful. Tesco is also a great grab-and-go type place. But with two weeks you can save a lot of money by just buying groceries most of the time. Nights out can get expensive--a beer was 4-5 pounds where I went so that's 8-10 dollars. Drink before you go out and save some money, but just be warned. Metro pass--I bought daily passes since I was only there for 4 full days. You can look into getting an oyster card which you just load money onto, since you'll be there for a bit longer. Talk to your connection over in London about getting one. Also, look into Megabus for tickets to places outside of London, you can probably find some cheap tickets if you book far in advance! Good luck!
