Well, I lived in Marylebone/Mayfair and loved it! It was kind of expensive but if you're moving from New York you're probably used to expensive living. Mayfair is right in the middle of the city. Lots of action and very fun but noisy. If you want to live in an exciting part of town but a little more of a neighborhood feel, Hampstead Heath is absolutely beautiful and only in Section 2 for the tube line. (section 1 is the middle of the city) Either way, it's where Jude Law grew up and there is lots of shops and restaraunts and bars there with tree lined streets. Good luck and have fun! I'm jealous. Try craigslist for some good deals. Also please note that many of the flats rental quotes are per week or per every other week. Not monthly.

I would, from my own personal experience, that Westminster in West End is the place for you. This is a very culturally adept spot in London where there is much theatre, cinema, world film premiers, clubs, fabulous restaurants, an . . . my personal favorite . . . Chinatown. The transportation in all of London is quite good, but especially in Westminster. I prefer the bus route, which runs 24 hours and will take you most anywhere at most anytime and is fairly inexpensive. I find that it is not as "bustling" as Manhattan, but has more the feel of Brooklyn, as I have been to both places. I'm sure you will enjoy London!

Dont look at London unless you are RICH!!!!!!!!! The best place to try would probobly be Sydney, Australia. That should tick all of your boxes.

Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove, Camden and Greenwich are all really upbeat with good transport and lots to do. Housing is really expensive in London though, so you may need to live outside it and commute in. Check out some prices here: www.rightmove.co.uk

The underground (the tube) tends to be quite good as you are likely to get one every 5 mins or there abouts. Buses are a bit annoying with traffic and timings, but in central London you are again likely to get one every 5 - 10 mins. Alll of tis means that wherever you are in Londo you will probably be able to get somewhere else in about 20 mins, unless you are going across the city. London definately has an upbeat lifestyle, nightlife is brilliant. Theres lots to do in the day too. Good parts to live depend on what you want. If you want to be close to business district and can afford it, London Bridge is good, if you want to be close to the action - Oxford St, Bond st, Tottenham Court Road. If your into alternative stuff Camden is good. If you want to get to London easily but dont want to be woken up at 4 in the morning, suburbs, or Notting Hill.
