How to get work permit Visa for the UK?

Trying to move to UK, finding it hard to get a job-do I have to apply for a work permit and visa b4 I go?

  • I'm thinking of moving to London but I am finding it difficult to get a job from the US. So I'm wondering if it is possible to apply for the visa and work permit when i move to London or do I have to get it in the US.

    You have to get the work visa first, and that means having a job lined up. Most employers wont sponsor you for a visa unless you have skills that they can not acquire locally. Working for a Youth Hostel is fairly easy and they will give you a permit as well as lodging.

You can come to the UK for up to 6 months on a visitors visa. During that time you cannot take paid employment. If you wanted to obtain a work permit for here, you would have to apply to the Home Office, in advance via your local embasy/consulate. It is not easy! I brought my fiancee over for 6 months, and even after paying over $500 in fees, she was still refused leave to remain. She had to return to the US, and I had to apply again to bring her here. (More $$$) So gave up! I am now moving to Los Angeles. The UK's immigration policies are bizarre and biased I am afraid. I speak from experience. HRH

You wouldn't happen to be a college student would you? If it has been six months since you last attended an American accredited university full time, you are eligable for a BUNAC Blue Card which will let you work in the country for six months.

You can come to the UK to look for work however you would need to return to the US to get your visa if you were successful in securing a job.
