Answer:
If all you saw of the country is based on a stay in London then you are in for a very nasty shock. That city is completely untypical of England and as far as the rest of the UK is concerned it may as well be a foreign place. The Spice Girls have been consigned to history for about ten years and most people don't care much about Adele. You won't see royals walking around everywhere and policemen don't ride bicycles "two by two". Nandos is based on south American chicken and isn't typical British food. The British people are generally very welcoming but they soon get tired of the "archetypical Yank" who has a "Disneyfied" view of what the UK is like. Seriously, before you progress your plans to move to the UK you must do a lot more research or you'll soon come very unstuck, even in London. You won't be able to stay long in the UK without having a job or a place at a university. You will need to satisfy the requirements for a work permit/student visa. Why not ask your granny to put you up for a month so that you can look around? Also look at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/LivingintheUK/index.htm

If your grandmother was born in England then you can get an Ancestory Visa which will allow you to live here. If not, then there is zero chance of you living here without at least a Masters Degree in a needed subject. Chelsea and Kensington are EXTREMELY expensive. The majority of London is very expensive but Kesington and Chelsea is much more expensive. The biggest problem you will have is you can roughly half your amount of US Dollars to see how much GBP (British Pound Sterling) you will have when you get here. For example, if you have $100,000 that is only £63,000, just over half.

If your dad is from London you can get a UK passport, so no problems there. You will find London very expensive for accommodation and food. What work would you be able to do? What skills do you have? How much cash can you bring?

Will, read the question, her DAD is from LONDON!
