How do you get to essex by train from London?

What is the distance between Central London and Essex Chelmsford?

  • I am from Scotland and i am travelling to London to go to V festival. I need to book a hotel to stay in during my time there and was wondering if it was a bad/good idea to book a hotel in Central London and to travel by tube or train to essex every morning. I have not been to either before and i am 16 so don't really know my way. If you could tell me if the staying in london and travelling idea was bad, what is a better idea, and how would i get from essex to london if i did? Thank you in advanced, no silly answers please.

  • Answer:

Chelmsford is 38 miles from central London. Frequent trains run there from London Liverpool Street Station taking about 32 minutes. An off peak day return ticket is £12.50 or 34% cheaper with a railcard www.railcard.co.uk There are many hostels and hotels in central London including cheaper ones like Premier Inn and Travelodge
