What train can I get from London Luton airport to a station close to the 02 arena?

  • Im flying into london on the 14th june and back out on the 15th please help i havent a clue!

  • Answer:

The route is Luton Airport-Luton Parkway rail station-West Hamstead Thameslink -West Hamstead Underground Station-North Greenwich Underground Station-O2 Arena. Luton Parkway station is served by a free shuttle bus which leaves from directly outside the airport terminal building, on the line of bus stops closest to the terminal. At Luton Parkway buy a ticket to North Greenwich via West Hamstead. Tickets bought for an alternative route will be more expensive. If West Hamstead is not specified a ticket via that route will normally be issued. The ticket will cover the main-line train and the Underground. From Luton Parkway trains run to London and onward through Gatwick to Brighton. You need a slow rain that stops at West Hamstead, about twenty five minutes journey. At West Hamstead, go up the prominent steps to the busy main road, called West End Lane, turn right, stay on the right hand side of the road, and walk 1/3 of a mile to the West Hamstead Underground Station on the Jubilee Line. On the way on the opposite side of the road is a large and prominent Victorian building, the Rat and Parrot pub, and there are two cafes on the side you are on, any of which will serve coffee and provide shelter or rest in the event of a downpour. You will be in England! West Hamstead is not an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, nor of particular artificial beauty, but a couple of laughs are available during the walk, including a joke costume shop...oh,er..actually the costumes are real. The road is normally very busy. The entrance to West Hamstead Tube Station is a square black hole in the space between two shops. Walk down the steps to the concourse and platforms . . A picture of the station is here with a Thameslink note below it. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/01/West_Hampstead_tube_stn_entrance.JPG&imgrefurl=http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:West_Hampstead_tube_stn_entrance.JPG&usg=__3ZTjg-qScraGR4OwHAl88rqnPLU=&h=1600&w=1200&sz=427&hl=en&start=18&um=1&tbnid=vKdsc7i_oJ7J5M:&tbnh=150&tbnw=113&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwest%2Bhamstead%2Bstation%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1 . . At West Hamstead get a south-bound train to North Greenwich, about 25-35 minutes journey time. At North Greenwich tube station walk 200 yards from the station to the O2 Arena.. Have a great time.

You can get the Thameslink (First Capital Connect) train from Luton to West Hampstead and then change there for the Jubilee line to North Greenwich. You would normally be able to change at London Bridge, but the Thameslink service does not operate at weekends because of engineering works.

Nickname

1) Catch a train from Luton Parkway train station to London St Pancras train station. 2) From Kings Cross St Pancras Underground (tube) Station, catch the Southbound Bank Branch of the Northern Line (black line) to London Bridge Underground (tube) station. 3) At London Bridge tube station, change onto the Eastbound Jubilee (grey) Line to North Greenwich tube station. 4) Walk to The O2 Arena - signs at North Greenwich tube station. Do in reverse to get back to Luton Airport.
