Should I study abroad in Liverpool?

Is Liverpool a good place to study and live ?

  • Hello. I am not from England but I'll go there for university soon. I was thinking of Liverpool because I think the city is beautiful and I heard the University of Liverpool is pretty good. I only went on holidays for a couple of days. So is Liverpool a good place to study and live ? And more important is it safe there ? Are the people nice ?

  • Answer:

30 000 Students think so and many of them are from overseas too Of course it is safe One of the safest in the UK Truly I am disabled and can't get out as much as I would like. I never know from day to day when I can get out but have to take the opportunity when it arises. It may be 2am or 2pm and I have been all over the city at different times Debunking the myths that this area or that area is risky You may have heard of Toxteth I was down there one evening around 8pm It was where I lived as a kid. I was standing outside a Somali Cafe feeling a little hungry. A guy going past said. I wouldn't go in there if I was you. Why not I asked. They will knife you He replied. Bollards I said and went in. You could hear a pin drop. They had never seen a white guy in there before. Any veggie food I asked. We have some Spagetti they said That will do fine. I sat next to a couple of guys from Afghanistan and within minutes they were teaching me Arabic and explaining how things were in their country. Yanks opening up on unarmed civilians and the many hardships the Afghan People were having to suffer. I shared my meal with them as they explained. Did I get knifed ? It was all they could do to find a fork. It is their custom to eat with their fingers. I have been in Arab Internet Cafes in Lodge Lane, before owning a computer. It was them who explained how to use one. I have been in Black Guy's Pubs to use the seating. The Rob Roy was one which is now sadly closed. They had the very best singers in Liverpool and the locals were always fun to be around. I have been to Chinese Town many many times at all hours to practice the bits and pieces of their language I had learned and of course for their wonderful food Never ever had a problem The above are only a few examples I could write reams of examples for you but hopefully it will give you some idea Please Ignore the idiotic comments saying otherwise They are no more than professional complainers who I would be reluctant to live by There is a great deal of jealousy from outsiders and You have probably spent more time here than them Our Daughter went to John Moores to study Pharmacy She had offers from around the country but chose Liverpool She was too dam idle to cook for Herself Bless Her but through her I saw many who when finishing their course tried very hard to find employment in Liverpool having enjoyed their time here so much It is a very pro Student place and local business suffers a great deal when the Students return home for holidays So Yes do come and it wont be to long before we make a good Scouser out of you too I er forgot You do have a good sense of humor Yes ? It is the only prerequisite required We don't care what color your skin or your religion or your Parents status but a scene of humor is a must to fully enjoy your time here So if you do come and see an old coot ambling along on two sticks. Don't forget to say Hi edit Don't mind me asking but Which Country are you from BTW ?

You'll be fine in Liverpool. Liverpool has a lot of attractions. It's fairly cheap for students, there are good markets, loads of nightlife and sights to see, and good transport connections all over the UK. The people are friendly and Liverpool humour is well known. You won't find a friendlier city in the UK so don't believe the daft stories about it being a dump. It's officially the 5th safest city in the UK. Manchester is 21st on the list, a long way down. JMU has one of the best astrophysics departments in the UK and it set up a company to make advanced robotic telescopes, a field in which it is now the world leader. The telescopes are made in Birkenhead across the Mersey from Liverpool. One of the completed telescopes is on the Canary Islands at the big Roque de los Muchachos observatory site and it's called the Liverpool Telescope. The Royal Greenwich Observatory has a telescope there too, the Isaac Newton telescope, and there are several more big telescopes from different countries http://www.islalapalma.com/en/places/roque-de-los-muchachos.html?p=ster:muchachos The Liverpool Telescope http://telescope.livjm.ac.uk/ Another is at Siding Spring Observatory in Australia http://www.faulkes.com/dfet/index.php/projects/faulkes-telescope-project/faulkes-telescope-southy The people...see all the responses from local people http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090503172942AAsoBfL Things to do and see and it's even better now with more work done and loads more investment http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090821183633AAhUC5Y You'll be fine in Liverpool. It's a great city.

Yes Liverpool is a good place to study and live. Yes the people are nice. I studied at LJMU and enjoyed it. I never had any trouble whilst studying there. Many of my relatives are from Liverpool. Try and get to the Cavern Club on Sunday afternoons to see the live music. I wish I had spent more time there. Good luck with your studies.

Yes it's fine

People from Liverpool are called 'scousers'. They are infamous for being loud, uncivilised, uncultured, and completely incomprehensible.

the people; fairly friendly if you can ignore the teenagers and understand their accents and phrases, for example 'Tala' means bye :) lol im half liverpudlian so i go there every year

They have had a riot in August, right in the city centre and Tesco supermart was burned and looted. It is quite peaceful now but no one gurantees that it won't happen. Glasgow (Scotland) is much more peaceful, no riot or looting.

I would not describe Liverpool as beautiful. London is the cultural capital of the U.K.
