Will £1000 be enough for a month abroad?

Will £1000/month be enough to live on in Scotland, UK?

  • Would and income of £1000 a month be enough to live on, including bills, food, rent etc? (not including council tax) also, if not could you give a reasonable income to live on? thanks

  • Answer:

It may be possible but you'd be struggling, and struggling is not a good way to live. Having said that it depends on what your lifestyle is and where abouts in Scotland you want to move to, and how many bedrooms, it'll be doable if you're sharing a house or flat but a lot harder if you want a house of your own. I would say £1500 is enough to be comfortable.

I hate these questions because it depends on so many variables. As a guide, if you are an overseas student, you are required to have £800 per month to live in London and £600 to live elsewhere in the UK. The minimum cost of living is assumed to be £100.95 per week after accounting for rent/mortgage, council tax and utility bills. On your budget (I assume you are talking after tax and NI) that leaves £600 per month to cover rent, council tax, elec, gas etc. Only you can decide whether that's a budget that you can live with.
