What is the best way to see the museums of Glasgow?

I am a new university student at the University of Glasgow. As such I live on the West End (close to Hillhead underground stop) and have yet see the rest of the city. I have heard that most everything museum wise is going to be be free this weekend. What would be the best way to get around to the museums and what museums can I not miss? Don't worry about the one's on the West End. THANKS!

Many of the museums in Glasgow are free all year. What is happening this weekend is Doors Open Day. About 150 buildings are open for free on Saturday or Sunday. These range from churches to fire stations. The most interesting of these are places like the BBC, but you need to book in advance for some of the very popular buildings. Have a look out for the blue signs as you wander around at the weekend, and look at the website: http://www.doorsopendays.org.uk/opendays/area_programmes.aspx?areaid=18 If you are reading this too late to go and see anything, visit Edinburgh next weekend (26 - 27 September 2009).
