Is Glasgow, Scotland very windy?

Glasgow and Scotland 2008?

  • I am organising a vacation to Glasgow and Scotland for a group of over thirty 18 to 20 year old students. We will be in Scotland for 7 nights, all of which will be spent in the Radisson SAS Hotel in Glasgow City Centre. What attractions in Glasgow do you recommend and what day trips do you think would be good? Also, if possible, could any recommend the best flight options between Pennsylvania and Scotland? Thanks for any information.

  • Answer:

Travel: US Airways fly daily, direct and non-stop from Philadelphia to Glasgow, so this is by far your best option for travelling to Scotland, this is the only direct flight from Pennsylvania to Scotland although direct flights from nearby states just as New Jersey and New England are also available to Glasgow. www.usairways.com Attractions: The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a must visit as Scotland’s most visited tourist attraction, the gallery gets over 5 million visitors a year, compared to just 2 million at the previously overrated Edinburgh castle. The only Museum in the United Kingdom that gets more visitors than Kelvingrove is the National History Museum in London, and that’s only ahead by a few hundred-thousand!! www.glasgowmuseums.com The Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow Tower and Imax cinema would also be a good attraction to visit for people of your age group. www.glasgowsciencecentre.org Another, less know about attraction in Glasgow is a speed boat trip up and down the river Clyde, I would strongly recommend this. http://www.seaforce.co.uk/ As for a full day away, how about the seaside town of Oban, fly on a seaplane direct from the river Clyde in the heart of Glasgow to Oban in just 20 minutes. www.lochlomondseaplanes.com Hope this helps, and enjoy yout trip to Scotland’s Premier Tourist Destination.

Glasgow is Scotland’s Number 1 city, always has been. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland with 2.5million residents, that’s more than half the entire Scottish population!! Glasgow is officially the United Kingdoms second city, second to London only. Edinburgh does not even make the top 20!! Glasgow also now gets far more visitors than Edinburgh, what does Edinburgh have to offer? A castle and ……………………… a castle? Bugger all else there in that small insignificant village, yes VILLAGE. Philadelphia1900, take a look at www.seeglasgow.com, the official website for the Glasgow Tourism Board. You have made the best choice of destination in Scotland, and definitely for that age group. Glasgow’s shopping is fantastic, officially the 7th best in the WORLD!!! Also, Glasgow is know for its fantastic and lively nightlife. TO Mike H, the question asked about Glasgow, NOT Edinburgh, why are Edinburghers obsessed with Glasgow?

I've been to Edinburgh and it was a very enjoyable city, moreso than Glasgow I would imagine. Glasgow is Scotland's second city and from what I've heard isn't exactly a tourist-friendly place. Its like going to Manchester instead of London if youre visiting England. Off the top of my head I can't think of any major attractions in Glasgow apart from a couple of museums and art galleries. If you're set on visiting Scotland, go to Edinburgh - the capital - instead!

I would recommend you visit the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and also the Transport Museum which is just across the road from it. You could also go on the city sightseeing bus. Glasgow has fantastic shops, parks, pubs, clubs and restaurants. The IMAX and Science Centre are also worth a visit if you get the time. The famous Barras market (only open weekends) and Paddys market are also worth a look for a few bargains and banter. Hope you all have a great time when you visit!

Glasgow is a nice city, but it's really weird you are basing yourselves there. You'd be better basing yourself in the Capital, Edinburgh (45 miles away). Still excursions from Glasgow could take you to Loch Lomond & the Trossachs. You oculd take in Stirling too (Braveheart country) which is midway between Glasgow & Edinburgh. In Glasgow itself there are loads of Art Galleries & Museums including the Kelvingrove Art Museum & The People's Palace. Glasgow is also an excellent shopping city & the good thing is you'll be able to have a beer legally in the pub (unlike some parts of the States) as most pubs have the legal limit to drink as 18 (just remember your passport). Not so sure if there are many famous castles etc there though. You may want to check out the link below:
