How much for spending money on a trip to Scotland?

Spending money for scotland?

  • i am going on a guided coach tour in 2012 mostly in scotland but the first day is in london. i want to know how much extra i should bring. the trip itself costs apprx. the trip is about 10 days or so, and im a somewhat big shopper?! could someone give me an idea as to how much i should set aside for food AND also for shopping for each day? approximatley! thanks!

Assuming that the hotels are included in the tour, if you eat out, you could get by with 20 pounds (sterling) for food/day (less if you buy groceries which is what I do-- food tastes great and is cheaper) and say 100 pounds/day shopping (depends on what you buy). If you bring a credit card and the account is in the US, my experience has been that the exchange rates were fair. Plus, carrying a credit card is safer than cash. Spend your time looking at the countryside, castles, etc. That is what makes the trip special. You can buy sweaters and jackets without having to go all the way to London and Scotland. Be sure to get some Walker's Shortbread. Buttery and yummy!

Depending on where you are going in Scotland also depends on how much you need for food. If you are getting accommodation with the coach tour it is more than likely you will have breakfast as well. If you say you will be stopping at coach stops for food you normally find it is a bit more expensive you are looking about £3.50 for a bowl of soup, £3.00 for a sandwich or if you are going for a meal it could be up to £15. For evening meals I would certainly say £15 per night. As for shopping are you likely to be buying everything you see? Someone mentioned shortbread, you are looking about £4.50 per tin, a woollen jumper will be about £25-£30 depending on what shops a good bottle of whisky £18, some of the hats etc £15. So depending on what you are buying will also determine how much you need. You might want to buy some postcards, different places charge different amounts and you could find yourself paying up to £3.50 for one. If you plan on buying a cd with traditional scottish music on it you will be looking to pay about £15. You can safely say £200 for the 10 days for food. If you plan on spending up to £100 per day you are looking at £1000 which seems very high to me. £1200 for your 10 days in total should cover you.

Only you can answer this. If you are a serial shopper, you will already know how much you spend each time. Multiply this by the number of days, add a little extra and you will arrive at the figure.
