What to see in Scotland in less than 4 days?

What would you do/see if you had 3 days in Edinburgh Scotland?

  • My family is planning to travel to Edinburgh Scotland in August. I was wondering what are some of the things to do/see when you are there?

  • Answer:

Guiri gives some excellent ideas; I would add the Camera Obscura which is beside the Castle. I would also add that you should be prepared to walk to see the best of Edinburgh "climb Arthur's Seat" for example, and just be prepared to walk around the city streets. There are many things on or near the Royal Mile /High Street, but it will depend on the age of the visitors. From Mary Kings Close, Museum of Childhood, Edinbugh Dungeon. My daughter is 9 and she really enjoyed Gladstones Land. Probably won't get much out of that if the visitors are younger. Take good shoes, a good camera and be prepared to be wet. August in Edinburgh is Festival time, it is incredibly busy. Enjoy.

Priorities - the Castle, the Scottish Parliament, the Royal Mile, Princess Street Gardens. Personally I would also go to the zoo and not just for the animals. The zoo is near the city centre and located on a hill so it gives some great views from the top. You don't need to be physically fit to handle it either - there is a train that takes you to the top then you can walk back down if you find that easier. It's a nice day out.

The Royal Mile, Princes Street Gardens, The Castle, Botanic Gardens and Calton Hill. Lunch at Hadrians Brasserie in the Balmoral Hotel, have afternoon tea at The Tower in the Museum and have dinner at Blonde. One day have coffee at La Turquaz in Newington. Walk through the Meadows and visualize what it might have been like when it really was meadows. Hike up to Arthurs Seat, down to Duddingston Loch and have a pub lunch when you get there. Have a great time.
