Where is a good and safe place?

My family is moving to Edinburgh, where is a good, safe place to rent a flat for the year?

  • looking for a safe place, we have 3 school aged children, and are looking for an area near schools, transportation, but most importantly, safe for families

  • Answer:

This questions can really only be answered by knowing what budget and expectations you have. The nicest areas are the most expensive after all, and with 3 children are you looking for 4 bedrooms? There are some Edinburgh property agents listed below so you can get an idea of what you can get for your money. Also a link about life in Edinburgh. Marchmont & Brunstfield are very close to the city centre, Morningside is great too, Comley Bank / Stockbridge are other popular areas but I think they lack on the transport links a little. And of course there is the Newtown which offers some great properties but may lack on schools. But really it is a safe city. You'd be better finding some flats and asking what people think of those areas.

The cheaper it is, the worse the area is always a good rule. Edinburgh is generally a safe city. Avoid the old council housing estates with no infrastructure. Have a look at http://www.propertytoday.co.uk/?sitecode=SCOT

Newington, Liberton, the Meadows areas are all good, fairly central and have good schools in the area.

Like all cities, Edinburgh has good and not-so-good areas. However, it's generally a nice city which is good for families.
