Should I buy in advance Edinburgh - London train tickets?
-
Hello, As a part of a longer trip I am gonna visit Edinburgh and then London, so Im gonna be taking a Edinburgh [EDB] - London Kings Cross [KGX] train, however some sites strongly recommend to buy tickets in advance, because the sooner the cheaper. So the question is should I really buy them?. In general I think Im gonna follow my schedule, however I would like to keep it flexible in case I want to stay one or two days more. If I buy tickets the same day could I get a nasty surprise by just being able to buy £100 tickets? Right know nationalrail.co.uk show me tickets for £54. Thx in advance. Greetings from Mexico

Answer:
Yes definitely -Also if you do end up going to a railway ticket office and they tell you the price they always tell you the dearest price and you have to keep asking is there anything cheaper? And then they look for cheaper journeys - Also book a numbered seat . Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a day return rather than a single but they dont tell you unless you ask. Different rail companies have different pricing policies - It will always be cheaper by national coach Travel which is mostly how students and old people get around and if its a short journey it isn't too bad - Sometimes the air fare with a budget airline is cheaper as long as you only take hand luggage

Advance train tickets will be the cheapest www.eastcoast.co.uk Another option and very good value for money if you're going to be doing a lot of travel around the U.K. is a Britrail Pass, which must be purchased before arrival here. www.britrail.com I

yes, you could get a nasty surprise if you just turn up and get on the train. £54 sounds like a good deal - I think you would pay a lot more if you buy tickets on the day of travel.

You pay a lot more money for flexibility. Advance tickets can be bought for as little as £12.00 from http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/

Definitely buy beforehand. Check all options (return, apex, advance purchase etc) to see what comes up best and buy when the price is right.

In a word YES. Always buy in advance, the more notice the better the price. ♣
