Best places to live in Wales?
-
Right now I'm in my final year of High school (almost 18 years old) so this move is not going to happen for a few years yet. I've always wanted to live in the UK/Wales and I've been researching rental prices (I know they will change), places to possibly live, possible areas with the best job opportunities etc. I was just wondering if anyone from Wales or otherwise knows of any places that would be best to live in. I'm looking for safety, affordability and convenience (i.e. good transport and close to Cardiff) Oh yeah and I'll be moving from Australia. Thanks for any info you can give.

Answer:
Definitely agree with avoiding Newport! Perhaps you could try one of the Cardiff suburbs, very close to Cardiff with great transport, cheaper to live in and still with the opportunity to travel into Cardiff for jobs, places like Dinas Powys and Barry. Somewhere I find quite nice in the area is Abergavenny, its smaller compared to Cardiff but is approx 40mins on the train into the centre of Cardiff! And trains are regular!

you've made a good choice,i lived there for many years, avoid Newport at all costs, even the welsh do,anyway its in england really, believe it or not,for safety and inner city always choose a muslim area, crime rate is virtually zero,no drunks, young thugs, prostitutes, binge drinking, cross the street and you are in the city centre where there's plenty of drunks,GOOD LUCK
why's me
I have friends in South Wales, Llantwit Major,& Pencoed. Both are good places to live. Easy to get to Cardiff City centre, & at the moment Wales is the cheapest place in UK to buy a house. Lots of pretty little villages & the Welsh are friendly folks. North Wales I am not so keen on but thats just my opinion. good luck with your move when it happens.
disgusted with councils
cardiff is the capital so good job opportunties , loads to do , but cardiff is always more expensive compared to other areas. so mabey outside cardiff, like bridgend, barry, pen coed, llanwit major, pernarth bla bla, areas not to far, even cwmbran, blackwood, newbridge, theres so many different areas ,its really best to look up everything and get everything right :) i dont know why slaggin off newport loool, (the first comment above, that person has about 20different accounts on yahoo, he thinks no1 knows, n likes trying to wind me up for some reason about newport as i live there , bless ,sad really im ov always on his mind lol, some pedo prob, actually makes me laugh as everything i say ov effects him, and likes leavin messages on different accounts pretending its another person leaving different comments, someone with no life, poor thing really, its quite shocking ) anyway, its not that bad where i live, better these days, lots more going on, ryder cup is here etc. and cardiff actually has one of the worst council estates in "europe"...and thats by written by the newspapers and media, tv, not me saying it, so if newport hasnt got one of the worst ,says it all really. but each to there own. but i like cardiff though so not going to slag it off, but like i said compared to other areas its more expensive , so it would be up to you, how much you could afford. you could easily live somwhere nearby cardiff , but still work in cardiff, get a bus or train. loads of different jobs you could do in cardiff, even mabey go to a uni, cardiff and swansea have unis to study :) id stick to south wales, compared to north or west ,theres more to do and more going on. yes theres good transports around cardiff, and close by ,theres loads of trains and buses that go to and from cardiff, so theres always transport around. and reasonable priced yes. swansea is nice too, not far from cardiff, beaches, good city centre. id look up different areas of south wales, and see what you like best, and what suits you best and go from there :) mind you i dont know why you want to leave austrailla, its lovely there lol, you are so lucky being from there, amazing weather too, a couple of people i know are living there for a year or so at the mo, they dont want to come back here lol, you are so lucky, you are mad wanting to come here but if thats what u want, thats all good, it will be something different and an experience. hope you find what you are looking for, and like i said do some research on different areas first, so you know the score, but mabey living outside cardiff would be best, the places i said above mabey, unless u can afford it of course :) like u said u have a few years yet, so do your research and hopfully by then u can come here and make it happen :) x
