Wild Camping in Brighton?

Camping on brighton beach?

  • Is it legal for a few friends and me to set up a tent and camp for a couple of nights on Brighton Beach, England?

  • Answer:

I doubt it; there is bound to be a local bylaw prohibiting it.

It would be very uncomfortable. Brighton beach is made up of pebbles. However, hop on a number 12 or 14 bus, you can pick one up from Churchill Square or opposite the pier, and get off at the next stop AFTER Brighton Marina. Cross the road and you will now be on the cliff top which is grass. Several people camp along there and no one will bother you unless you make a mess. For toilets and washing you can walk along and down to the Marina where there are plenty of places plus restaurants, MacDonalds, etc

I'm afraid you can't camp on Brighton Beach, there are places around Brighton to camp, see http://hotels.brighton.co.uk/bodypage.asp?subheading=Campsites&url=Accommodation&mainheading=2 for a list of campsites. Also the beach here is made up of large pebbles, which we really like as you don't get sand in your shoes (or beer)!
