What paramilitary groups in Ireland are still active?

Are there still any violent Catholic groups in Northern Ireland?

  • Answer:

There is no such thing as a "Catholic" group. There are Republican groups the vast majority come from a catholic background. It is a common mistake though. These so called groups are not defined by religion. They believe in a common belief that Ireland should be unified and that it should be a socialist state. As time moves on the religious aspect of these groups has become less important. They are just thugs and scumbags. The CIRA and the Real IRA are the only 'active' ones now, I think. And by active I mean that they haven't called a ceasefire.. The PIRA is still active in money laundering and drug dealing (but its a different machine now than it was in the trouble days). Most of the Loyalist groups are heavily involved in drug dealing as well. As I say - they are all scum.. ever single last one.
