  Im doing the same thing, and I have already been there to check it out. Heres the best advice you will get I guarantee it. Okay first you will need a place, I reccomend using www.Gumtree.com, you can sort by price. For a single person, you can find a room to share (with roomates) for about 300 GBP per month, or about 550 dollars. Double will run you about 400 GBP per month. (with roomates), you can find a studio for around 500 GPB per month, and 1 bedrooms run around 650-750 GBP per month. Refer to www.xe.com for exchange rates. When looking for a house, the most expensive ones are in zone 1 of the subway. Find a subway map and you will see. Try to find a place in zones 2 through 4. Anything past that and youre commuting for an hour each way. Stay out of SW London, its crime ridden and terrible. Like Compton... Subway and bus is the way to go, since cars are expensive and road taxes are also expensive. Subway will run you 25 GBP per week for zone 1-3 travel anytime card. Get an Oyster card, it charges you less, you just renew the money. Food is normally priced, and so is entertainment. Zone 1 is the tourist zone so prices are almost double of the same stuff in zone 2-6. If you are not on a work permit, you may want to try to get a work visa, they very strict on employment laws, (im american I tried) Or you can test your luck and get some kind of vacation like job, working in a hotel or someplace outside of london. In all I would say for a single guy to move there, (im not sure if youre moving with a suitcase, or have a lot of furniture, Im calculating for moving with a suitcase) you need about 3000-4000 USD. That will give you about 2-4 months to look for a job, depending on how you ration your cash.
