Answer:
There are plenty of fluent English speaking Turks around so competition for jobs would be great unless you can offer another skill/language. In my opinion a minimum survival salary to include rent etc is 2,000TL a month. Most jobs are in Istanbul but the other major cities (Ankara, Izmir, Adana for example) are worth considering. Izmir is probably the easiest place for a foreigner.

Well, you need a firm grasp of both languages. The thing is, the country is ridden with English speaking Turks, so a weak grasp of Turkish will be a disadvantage in your endeavour. I think you should decide which area you would like to work on first. Business, literature, technical translations, or being an interpreter, and in which area... There are many employment opportunities in Turkey for foreigners, and a good planning could land you on your ideal job. And planning, you will need; remember that the rate of unemployment is high here. Good luck.

there are many translators in turkey, but if u have a degree from the uk u can find a decent job. salary varies depending on where you work... u can also work as a language teacher... the apprx. pay is $1,400, and there are a few language schools that give housing and health insurance for free. i would say southern part of turkey would be a good choice, if you consider the harsh weather condition in istanbul during winter; to be more specific about the location, i guess antalya would be a good choice; but the problem is many schools and companies are located in istanbul... maybe quarter of business is located in istanbul in turkey... you will have plenty of choices and alternatives if you work in istanbul. it is safe to live; but like any other giant cities you have to be careful... if you have any questions just ask and i will be happy to answer as far as i know. i hope this answers a few of your questions... good luck

You can work as a translator anywhere with modern technology, but you would need a basic university degree at least, and many translation agencies require a translation diploma as well.
