Answer:
It seems you have a pretty good deal on your flight tickets for 5 of you. It is always more expensive if you are traveling from the West coast. Which airline is that if I may ask? :) I am kind of in the process of settling my deals too. :) $3,000 seems to be a fair amount of money for your stay after hotel and flight tickets are paid. I hope your hotel is in Sultanahmet area because if you are looking to see the sights, all the major historical attractions are located there. You can go to places on foot and save money on public transit. You could save money eating local food for your lunch and dinners. Like: kofte ekmek, balik-ekmek, kumpir, doner. They were around 5 to 10 TL last year with the current exchange rate about $4 - $8 CAD in Sultanahmet,Sirkeci Eminonu district. Cheaper than all the fast food chains you can think of, actually don’t even bother to eat in a fast food restaurants because Turkish food is really yummy. You can get nice sit down meals really inexpensive. If you are in a hurry and don’t have time to sit down to eat then you could buy simit from the street vendors to fill you up until your main meal. I buy simit from the street vendors and knock on wood nothing has happened to me. Simit is a bigger and crispier type of Sesame Bagel would just give you the empty calories. If you are a big shopper you might want to take a bit more money, you can always take it back if you don’t spend it all. There are quite BIG shopping malls in Istanbul. Grand Bazaar and Spice Market (Egyptian Bazaar) are also places to shop for souvenirs. Edit: You must be kidding me! I'm in Van too. I haven't checked Delta yet, I was about to purchase from Air Canada via London Thanks

You should tell us your departure location in order to enable us to see whether there are cheaper airlines, or not. 3000 $ seems alright for moderate spending. You should bring a credit card for rainy days, though.

Inka Hotel is a good and inexpensive hotel in Taksim.
