Jake Hess, 25, from Hampton, N.H., moved to Turkey about two years ago as a human rights activist concerned about the treatment of Kurds in Turkey and Iraq. Hess was detained late Wednesday on allegations of collaborating with Kurdish activists accused of having links to terrorism, his lawyer said.   i know the case. he was in custody for three days by last friday. normally you can not keep someone in custody more than one day according to turkish law, however it seems that police requested additional time in custody and court seems to accept it. probably he will be deported in a few days. why turkish state is doing that? under the increasing pressure of militant acts of pkk, turkey became more agressive since the spring of this year. there have been lots of prosecutions towards pkk and those beleived to be related with pkk. it is like the reaction of US after 9/11. Paranoia it is, if you ask me. jake hess's situation, therefore, is more like an externality.
