My best friends husband worked in the oil industry in Trinidad. They were posted there for a year. They lived in the Maraval area and payed about US$3500 or so rent (can't remember exactly). She said that was the rent you had to pay in order to live in a secure, nice area. I never got to visit her there, but she said the country was very beautiful though you could not go to some of the beautiful areas due to the crime :-( She said the public health system was a mess, you have to pay to go private if you want decent healthcare. Her husbands company organized the work permit, so not sure about that. She never really complained about a bad internet conection except once or twice when she lost service. She was quite positive about her experience but said that the crime really spoiled the country and that the Government seemed to be powerless to do anything and very corrupt. She was glad to visit but also glad to leave when she did.

Rent for a furnished 3 bedroom apratment US$3,000 per month. Unfurnished US$2,500. These are in the upscale Westmoorings and Maraval areas which are the areas expats tend to gravitate to. Usually these rents are paid for by the company. An engineer in the oil industry makes about US$5000 per month. You will need a work permit, police certificate, resume, 2 references. You wlll need to fill out a form for the Ministry of National Security which will provide further details. Cost of application is US$100 but payable in TT$. Public health care is not the best but there are good private hospitals.
