Answer:
Female 26-30 Trinidad No 5 times My sisters and I took a break Guest House Fair Yes No Yes Theft of property/money Yes Yes Yes I don't particularly like this question because I think the answer is obvious. Certainly... I felt disenfranchised when I was robbed and found even less comfort in the police who seemed to be unable to do anything to apprehend the thief. Whether crime could be a deterrent when considering vacation destinations is another question altogether. The tourism industry seems to be plagued with petty crimes that no tourism body or government has been able to properly get a handle on. But as a resident tourist... I think these are some of the issues I need to be prepared for and so I've learnt to be smarter when I travel and practice safety. I will certainly visit Tobago again and I'll even recommend the place to a friend with the notes of caution. For me... if crime were the determining factor... i wouldn't even visit the place... I simply wouldn't even consider it a tourist destination. Tobago's appeal is much bigger than the petty crimes to me.. so I would simply take that risk and bearing the risk in mind... I would take greater precautionary steps to safeguard my property. And this isn't just for the purpose of a Tobago visit but instead its my modus operandi wherever I travel.

Reports of crime in any country acts as a deterent to potential tourist. to go a little further, crime affects the entire economy of Tobago...a lot of people in tobago work in the hospitality industry, when there is less tourist in the country, it may become difficult for smaller business eg guest houses etc to remain sustainable. it also means that food places...fast food, food shed on beaches, persons selling red mango around d ports...gets less sales. fishermen will sell less sea food as hotels etc will be purchasing less produce from them. In general, every one who provides a service geared towards tourism will be affected.

People do believe that there's crime here, and people believe that the police are ineffective. In a recession, people are not going to pay money for something they can't guarantee - and if they can't guarantee a good, SAFE time in Tobago, they won't come!

How? ___Yes, because almost all the islands depend on tourism and when the US or UK where the majority puts out an advisory on the island it is bad for them. Adittionally, if a tourist is killed is also negative publicity for them as well. Look at the Antigua when the tourist were killed. This is bad for tourism.
