How is the climate in Winnipeg? Is Winnipeg University good for Computer Science?

    I have degrees from the University of Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba, as well as one other university in Canada. I'd definitely say the U of W was a better educational experience. The U of M is bigger, but that's not always an advantage. The weather, you'll find, is extreme compared to what you're used to. I was just talking to a German immigrant a week or two ago, though, and she said she was getting used to it, and she didn't mind it. Canada is much more relaxed than Germany, a much slower pace, generally (according to her). I met another man in Germany last year who was stationed for training at Shilo (a military base nearby) a few years ago, and he has happy memories of Winnipeg - so other Germans have found it tolerable. You might like it.

If you're looking to specifially study Computer Science then the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg would be better than the University of Winnipeg. The University of Manitoba offers a far greater offering in terms of courses in Computer Science as well as the opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Computer Science. The program at the university of Winnipeg is applied computer science and much less broad in it's offerings. It's more ideal for those wishing to do a double major. In terms of climate Winnipeg is a northern land locked city so it had both cold winters and hot summers. Is it worse than Berlin? Depends what kind of climate you like. It certainly gets much colder in the Winter. Most winters see at least a handful of days where the temperature goes below -30C. The summers are plesant and warm and there are beautiful beaches not far from the city. Winnipeg is a very sunny city with less cloud cover on average than most cities.
