How do u play straight pool by urself?

I guess that recommendation was mine, so here is more on that matter. Straight Pool gives you just a reason to play balls and it is a good practice working around clusters and making combination and carom shots. You should try to play it as if you had an opponent so don't break the entire rack open unless you are confident that you will run out the table. Instead of counting the balls you make just count the numbers of missed balls per rack. It's easier to remember and gives you an indication about your improvement over time. A couple of racks keep you busy for an hour or so and it takes the boredom out of playing alone. Another great practise is Jim Rempe's brain washing drill. spread out all 15 ball across the table. Make it easier by not putting them too close to rails or to each others. Then shoot all the balls in no particular order. Rules: don't miss a single ball and don't hit any rail with the cue ball. If you miss or touch the rail start over. This is great practice for your leave. Have fun. Edit: Eldoradodave is wrong. Straight pool does not require any particular order. It is not at all like 9-ball. Playing since being 14 is no quality statement ;-)

Fast Eddie has a good answer here. If you're not familiar with the official rules of straight pool, check out the BCA (Billiard Congress of America) website. They have complete world-standardized rules for straight pool. When I play alone, I tend to play both sides as though I was two players. Don't just try and go for risky shots to try and beat your high run. Play a smart game. Start off with a regular straight pool defensive break and take it from there. You may play 10 safety shots in a row on both sides. Don't be afraid to play safe against your "opponent" just because it happens to be you. What you do is after the break start with the #1 ball and pocket it or pocket another ball using it as the object ball. And then go onto #2,#3 and so forth. Cause in straight pool thre points are what counts so if ya can sink the higher # balls the more points ya score. Same principle as 9 ball. Play yourself in a game of 8 ball. calling shots and make yourself the rule that every shot has to be a bank shot. 9 Ball. PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE on the break to sink the 9 ball. It can be done. But not by hitting them head on .

There is only one way to play straight pool - run out...because if you don't do it your opponent probably will. So try to find a ball you can call on the break and make - sometimes can hit a back corner one thin and have it bank off the back rail and into the corner or side pocket from the side of the table you broke from. Then proceed to run however many balls you are playing up to (minus one). You imaginary opponent can do nothing but watch. Yeah I suppose that won't often happen ;) straight_shooter526 has a good answer. Yet if you can learn to make that break ball more than half the time, an offensive break may be the way to go - and becoming comfortable with high runs is helpful. I.e., you don't want to feel as if something is wrong if you are making too many balls - therby limiting yourself.

Great game to practice I also play a lot of 1 pocket by myself I think this helps with some of the sneakier shots. Which ever you choose remember to play as if against an opponent and even try set drills. Luck K
