Until approximately 10 years ago, cues were manufactured without a bolt or with a bolt which was not removable. In an effort to reduce the need to stock each cue in different weights, the manufacturers now use replaceable weight bolts. This practice is used in most mid to high quality brands. I don’t recommend attempting to remove the bolt if you are unsure of the brand because if it is an older or cheaper cue, you could be disassembling the actual structure of the cue. The best thing to do is find some identifying mark on the cue. If there is none, take it to a local billiard dealer to see if they can identify it.
