How do you know if a pool stick is quality made?

How do I pick out a good pool stick?

  • I'm thinking about buying my bf a pool stick for Christmas because he's a big pool fanatic. I know nothing about pool or how to choose a pool stick...I can't afford any of the really fancy $1000 ones haha. I'm looking for something around $50 ish dollars. I understand that this price limit also limits the quality but he won't mind too much. So any suggestions on a "good" pool stick or advice on what to look for in a stick would really help!

For a good quality cue u should be paying over $200. And that is for a sneaky pete. proper inlays cost ALOT of money but make the cue Beautiful. If you cannot be swayed and must get him a cue, the best choice in your price range is cutec. The sneaky pete is about $60 and is as good of a quality as u can get for the price. A sneaky pete is a cue made to look like a one piece, hidden joint, very plain. In the $160-$180 is the Poison VX. Looks wise I don't like it but my friend just started playing and didn't want to drop alot of money so he got this. I have shot with it and it plays very well. One of my cues is a Predator and this has a similar feel, as it should since Poison is Predators economy line. Going up in price, production cues, I like Meucci and Joss and pechauer. all good choices, but $200 to over a grand. some people like Lucassi, mali, mcdermott and viking, I do not. The cue, at least the shaft, most popular with professionals is Predator. $300+ for a sneaky pete, more for inlays. I won a Willie Hoppe special edition with the rainbow points and love it, It is the cue I play with most often now. Next is custom cues, There are tons of em to choose from, but most are very expensive.

There are several factors that come into play and just as many questions that you will have to answer for yourself when you order your cue. What weight should it be? How long should it be? What size shaft to you want? What kind of tip should it have? What kind of wood will it be made of? Will the butt be wrapped or laminated? Will it have an elaborate and ornate group of inlays? You may want to get your boyfriends input before you purchase his cue.

They're all right. But i have seen some great pool playing by guys and girls who just grab a bent, curved house stick in the worse dive bar in the area.Phenomenal playing, but it is a rarity, (inebriated hacks using the stick to hold ones self up,hence the curve)
