How can I advance faster in figure skating?

Does figure skating scoring system need to be changed?

  • it seems athletes are being penalized for performing difficult jumps. how can a sport advance this way? if this system was intact the last 30 years, would figure skating still be doing double jumps?

  • Answer:

No, if the scoring is changed it may become harder to bribe the judges.

There has always been crying about the scoring, its part of the sport Too many divas. No scoring system will make them happy. This system actually weights all elements fairly. Footwork and style /flow of the performance are just as important as jumps. It isn't a jumping competition.

The scoring has actually already been changed, it used to be on a system of up to 6 points per category from the judges. up to 6.0 for artistic and 6.0 for technical merit. There were few who actually ever got 6.0. In Ice Dancing it was always very political in that often the winner never did that good of a performance but won because they were the ones who had been there the longest. In previous years the couples that got 1st and 2nst in ice dancing would have been maybe in the top 10 but definitely not the winners.

The scoring was changed to a point system. I think it is very fair now. Remember the whole program is judged, not just the jumps. The Russian man lost because he was NOT graceful at all. Yes he did several quads, but they looked clunky and not flowing. . The scoring system is much better now then it was 8 years ago.
