AM l TOO OLD FOR GYMNASTICS?
-
when i was five years old, i did gymnastics everyday, and my coaches wanted me to compete in level 5, when everyone else in my class was not even ready for level 2. so my mom asked me what i wanted to do... and i STUPIDLY said "i dont want to do this anymore" arghh... well when i was twelve i started back up and competed at level 5 for one year, and then quit. six years later i am wanting to go back and try again! i am wondering if there are any summer camps or anything that might take older people interested in gymnastics, so i won't be the ONLY older person at some gym class with 4 year olds running around doing level 8 gymnastics...?

Answer:
nope ur not too old. dont be embarassed if ur in the same class as the younger kids..everybody starts at a different age and everybody is different so dont worry about it at all. if u really really dont want to be in a class with younger kids i will suggest getting a private lesson with a coach. or going to open gym sometime. there are many ppl at my gym that are your age that are doing gymnastics and arent' doing level 10 skills. someone at my gym doesnt even have there kip yet and they're 19! but they keep trying and thats what u should do so good luck. and btw, there are some summer camps..woodward and igc but they're kinda expensive. so look into that if ur interested. good luck and i hope this helped a lot

You are, unfortunately, on the upper edge of being able to train, but there is more an issue of desire and "stick-to-it" ability. Are you looking to train for the Olympics or just to do gymnastics for yourself? If you are thinking of training for the Olympics please bear in mind that it takes A LOT of training, hours a day, everyday, competitions, tryouts against younger more trained athletes. It is unfortunate but most female gymnasts compete at ages under 20, most male gymnasts are over 20. At 18, you will not have the same flexibility as younger students and I can't imagine trying to learn. I'm not even sure if your age level would be accepted for a program. I would suggest that you see whether you can be an assistant or helper in a class in exchange for some practice time and coaching.

Trust me i'm a gymnast and most level 8 gymnasts are aroud the age of 14 and older and there is a girl at my gym that is 17 and is a level 8 so if you really like the sport i say go for it! Good Luck
