When does the alpine skiing start?

Alpine skiing vs. bob sledding?

  • I need facts to support alpine skiing is more challenging than bob sledding.

  • Answer:

You need to be more specific. You won't find facts to support that overall one is more challenging than the other. That's like trying to argue that overall sprinting is more challenging than swimming or than gymnastics. Alpine skiing could be said to require more endurance wherease bobsledding requires more of an initial burst of speed. Both sports require a great vision of the course. Alpine skiiers navitage the course by shifting their body weight, whereas bobsleighs are driven using cables pulled by the driver's hands. From that perspective a certain strength is requires for alpine skiing that may not necessarily be required for bobsledding. From another perspective, the speeds achieved in bobsledding and the angles of the turns make navigating their course more difficult than navigating a downhill course. Also, with alping skiing you're talking about downhill, super-g, giant slalom, and slalom, each coming with its own unique requirements for strength, agility, control, vision etc. Any athlete will tell you that no one sport is overall better, harder, more challenging etc. than another. I can guarantee you that every single Olympic skiier and every single Olympic bobsledder take their sport just as seriously, train just as hard, and compete with just as much pride and determination as any other top calibre athlete in any sport. The two sports are different, and present different challenges to the athletes. One is not more challenging than the other.

You actually have to use your body rather than sitting in a little car thing.

Look at what it takes to win in each event. Skiing: strength, stamina, precision, lightening sharp reflexes, no fear. Bobsledding: strength and speed for the start, ability to learn the track, fearlessness. But look at Bobsledders and you see many of them are not in great physical shape. The only real physical part of the sport is the first few steps in the start. After the start it's more about the ability to drive. Although I have never tried either activity myself, I would imagine skiing is significantly more challenging than sledding.
