How do you do a back bend and kickover?

  • i can do the back bend but i can never kick over i just cant do it and it makes me really mad can someone give me some ideas of how to help me do it?

  • Answer:

So a back bend kickover or a backwalk over as its known in gymnastics is a hard skill to master. It requires lots of strength and even more flexibility. Great ways to help connect your backbend to kick over are doing alot of "fall into bridges" thats were you are standing up and fall back into the bridge position. This builds strength needed to support your weight upside down. The next step is getting a really good bridge. Do lots of bridges to stretch out your back. The short bridge is a good exercise to stretch your back (bridge with hands and feet as close together as possible). When you feel you have a good bridge, the easiest way to kick over is from short bridge. If you put your hands and feet close together, your body will almost automatically try to flip over. All you need to do is add a little kick and your set! Take your time and try your best, remember, Rome wasn't built in a day :) Good luck!!

I love to do back and front walk overs and you have to work on it but once you are down in the back bend rock yourself back and forth till you get momentum then kick as hard as you can and through yourself over and once you get that down you will be able to do it without even thinking or swinging hope i helped!

Same with me. I have to be able to do a kickover to move onto level 3. My coach is also teaching me back handsprings. Which kinda helps. 1. Do a handstand into a backbend onto a couch. Then do a kickover. It helps alot. And its alot easier. And if you have mats. Fold 1 and do a backbend with your legs on the mat then kick over. Then once you do that unfold the mat 1 time then do tht and keep unfolding it until its all open. Also maybe have someone spot you? I did it 1 time by myself. Lol the other times i either fell on my head or my legs came of the ground and so did my arms then i landed onto a back bridge once again
